Helen and Ben's wedding was set at a winery outside of Geelong overlooking the gorgeous rolling hills and vineyard. Taking place at dusk in late Autumn, the couple planned a ceremony and reception with an elegant autumnal theme.
I love it when there is an opportunity to use illustration as a feature when designing custom wedding invitations. Helen and Ben offered me that perfect opportunity to do just that when designing their invitation.
The lovely couple wanted an invitation with a elegant and classic black and white style, complete with a Victorian inspire pair of silhouette portraits of the couple.
The couple also wanted to keep things simple and combine all of the information in one piece rather than separate invitations, rsvp, details and maps cards.
The solution was to create a a folded 'shutter' style invitation which allowed us to feature the couples illustrated silhouettes on the facing opening panels. When opened the inside f the invitation includes the event details including rsvp, accommodation and gift registry details. On the reverse panel is a guide map for guests travelling to the wedding complete with a small horse illustration for the groom.
The design features classic book plate style typography balanced with a clean san serif font for the details. A rounded dotted line frames each section reinforcing the Victorian inspiration for the suite.
The colour palette is deliberately monochrome - with a dark charcoal used throughout to again reinforce the sense of elegance. The paper stock is a lovely white linen with a light texture reminiscent of that used in book covers on the Victorian period.
The couple also used the illustrated portraits on the table seating chart and order of ceremony (on the day elements designed by the couple).
