Disband Melbourne - presented by Leeloo
In 2010 I was invited to take part in a group art exhibition titled Disband. Presented by Leeloo, the exhibition featured original artwork by 16 Australian artists and illustrators. Inspired by the 40th anniversary since the break-up of The Beatles, the theme of the exhibition was the end of relationships, be they romantic or otherwise.
After the success of the first showing staged in Sydney in May 2010 at one of Sydney’s favourite indie art venue’s, aMBUSH Gallery, the curators Angela D'Alton and Renee Baker of Leeloo brought the show to Melbourne's No Vacancy Gallery in August 2010.
Once again the artwork was showcased in an installation where visitors toured the apartment of a couple undergoing such a split, and the featured works will be on the wall of their “living space”.
In addition to being a contributing artist, I also assisted the organisers with sourcing the furniture and objects required for the installation.
For the Melbourne showing of Disband I created 3 pieces using a combination of pencil and ink rendering and hand collaged textures including vintage dress patterns.
Artwork titles from top to bottom:
I'm looking right through you (coloured pencil, ink and collaged ephemera)
Blackbird (coloured pencil and ink)
I want to hold your hand (coloured pencil and ink)
